Co2+MgAlO4 crystal is a new material suitable for passive Q-switching. It can be used in laser systems which emits from 1.2 to 1.6 µm wavelengths. It perfectly suits in eye-safe 1.54 µm Er:glass lasers. High absorption cross section allows Co2+:Spinel to be used in Q-switching of Er:glass lasers without intracavity focusing.
